MURAMOTO SHINGO
LACQUER SCULPTOR
Lacquer and bamboo. Muramoto Shingo continues to create new forms from the blessings of nature by using these materials, which are at the opposite end of the spectrum to modern craftsmanship that has strayed away from nature. He warps bamboo, stretches cloth over it, and applies lacquer. Muramoto's unique technique produces a curved surface that has never been seen before in other modern art, and the lacquer, which is applied and polished over and over again, gives it a glossy sheen. The contrast of the natural materials and the human hand is an expression of the symbiosis between nature and humankind.
